New bar chairs from Holler Design

You can enjoy our selection of craft beers on tap, including five featured Tennessee Brew Works brews, in the comfort of our TV-free bar, thanks to some sleek new bar chairs we received from Matt Alexander at Holler Designs. We are excited about our new chairs. Sticking with our theme of staying close to home, this regional designer is based out of Lascassas, Tennessee, which is close to Murfreesboro.

Matt is no stranger to Knoxville or The Tomato Head. He attended the University of Tennessee, where he received a degree in sculpture and found one of the best spots to eat in Knoxville. He still makes a point to swing by The Tomato Head when he passes through Knoxville for a fix of pizza, hummus, and bread and tahini. Matt moved on to get a Master’s degree in 3-D design and study under designer Jason Miller in Brooklyn.

Matt has a unique story, and you can probably guess by now, these chairs are pretty unique too.

Each chair started as a tree on the Alexander family farm in Lascassas before being taken to the family owned sawmill, then back to Matt’s workshop which was once a general store ran by his grandfather. The process is wholly linear and kept within the family. Which means that the chair you’re sitting at were taken from the farm, carved, and crafted all by the same designer, with quality treatment and fair wage labor.

Matt has done really great work for places in Nashville, such as Rolf and Daughters and the Barista Parlor. All of these pieces were designed exactly for the space they fit, and were inspired by Matt’s love for mixing the soul of the south with modern furniture and contemporary changes in culture and music.

Be sure to check out Holler Design’s website, Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram to see more of Matt’s great work.
